BLOOM´S TAXONOMY ACTIVITY

December 20, 2011 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Really I´m asking myself about the utility of these domains in my class and how I could to plan activities based on Bloom´s Taxonomy and I thought  that I would do something like this:

Next class I have to teach third semester´s students of High School how they can to give directions or to interpret them in an oral and written text.

Recalling: to remember learned vocabulary about directions.

Understanding: to reflect in some places where people could be in.

Applying:   to be situated in a specific place of their origin community and to think how they´ll get other places explaining the directions about it.

Analyzing: if they want to go to a specific place or if they need to give directions to some people.

Evaluating: they´ll share a real situation which they can speak giving specific directions to the whole class. e.g. walk along; walk down; turn left; across from, next to, between, on the right, walk up.

Creating: design a model (maqueta) about their community ( specific place); write their own questions and answers about their directions and show them for assess.

LEARNING STYLES

MY PERSONAL LEARNING STYLE

When I began to study English in Middle School I was very exciting because it was my first experience with a second language. Bit to bit I went discovering that I had an important ability for to learn English. Know it increased my guess for to learn a second language. This fact added my self-esteem, and then I decided to continue learning English (more or less 15 years old).

Lately, I increased my knowledge when I was in High School. In this stage I discovered, that when I would read I would learn better. I never could imagine that it was some related with my personal learning stile and less about my multiple intelligences.

Recently I had increased my preparation in learning a second language and I had discovered a very important thing: about my personal learning style.

If my highest percentage is visual I prefer to think in pictures or movies .This style is most effective when I want to create and recall images when I read, or when I taking a written test.

Visual learners tend us to be neat and organized and our learning style preference tends to most closely match most educational and company working environments.

I invite you to check this Power Point presentation:

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

To know about my own learning it will help me to teach better my students, giving them specific attention about their learning problems. Moreover, to know about it helps me because I can design or to plan and to do combined activities, this way to apply them in according to students´ different learning styles so as their multiple intelligences also.

Therefore it is very important to make closer relationship with my students, putting in practice the contents and trying always to develop the classes the most effective possible from the students´ point of view.

MOTIVATION

What and how much I do for my students?

Firstly, I know about my responsibility as teacher and that I must  engage my students to learn a second language because nowadays it is necessary to do it.

By other way, I´m conscious that my student´s learning depend on a certain way of the motivation,so as the importance what can I give them, also.

I think that I can participate directly with them. How? Observing their learning, being their reliable friend and growing their self-esteem through the rewards like for example extra points when they have participation with the group or to do praise for their personal performance and to display videos like this, check it!

SPEAKING ACTIVITIES

There are excellent tools for learning and develop the student´s skills. One of them it is the advance of technology and its useful.

Students and teachers can use this excellent tool for learning and teaching. As teachers, if we want to do better that knowledge we must to resort to the new teaching strategies like the use of  Voki http://www.voki.com/ .

With Voki we can plan and develop our classes; we find ideas, links and voki resources like for example voki questions, interviews and to get voki tips.

This is a wonderful tool because through it the students can increase their speaking learning or sharing personal information about themselves.

There is other kind of tool like for example Fotobabble  http://www.fotobabble.com/.

The students can be interactive through this wonderful tool and to share activities, personal information, hobbies and overall, they can communicate through their own photos!!

Of course I would like to work with this tool in my class!

THE EDUCATION IN MEXICO

There are different levels in education: Basic Education, High School, and Superior. Basic Education includes four stages:  Preschool, Primary School, Middle School, and High School.

This education is given for the State (govern) through the Secretariat of Public Education, and it must be free, secular and obligatory for people who live in México.

Regularly Preschool Education is given to little girls and boys minors of six years old, with the purpose to increase their capacities and essential develop; to acquire different skills, habits and values, so as to develop their independence and creativity.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-67CWia2hKc&feature=related

Primary School, comprising six grades (1-6) when the student’s age is 6 to 12 years old. The purpose of this stage is to teach reading, writing, basic calculation and some cultural aspects to the students, so as to develop their individual motor capacities and personal balance in relation with social activities.

Middle School, when the students to join this stage they have 12 or 13 years and 15 or 16 when they conclude it. This education has the aim to ability the students to continue their preparation if they are going to study High School. At this level, more specialized subjects may be taught such as Physics and Chemistry, and World History, among others.

This teaching provides basic formation to the students, even if they decide do not to study more ahead and for the High School which has during three years also.

People decide which, how, or when they want to continue at the University. They only have to pay some money each semester beginning.

RUBRIC

ABOUT RUBRIC

I am teaching English in High School (First Semester)

In the first unit, the students must learn Simple Present Tense and to involve the four skills of learning (writing, reading, listening and speaking) in this activity. However, they are not learning at the same time and the same way. In spite of that, I need to assess their learning. In support of this activity I designed a Rubric, with essentials elements and numeric evaluations in each case of develop.

I consider that Rubric is an excellent tool for to assess the students in a precise moment, and when we need, it gives us the best results showing the students’ advantages and disadvantages.

BEHAVIOR ´S RUBRIC

As teacher, every day I can observe students´ behavior and to guess if some of them are having problems inside their families or school which are reflected in students´ learning.

I think that it can to assess students´ behavior through a rubric, obviously taking main elements like his/her behavior, integral teamwork, social and academic skills, among others.

This kind of assess would reflect us a qualitative results about students´ behavior observed,  this way to conclude if the student who produce behavior changes needs psychological help.

I consider behavior´s rubric good tool for teachers.

LITERACY CIRCLES

October 11, 2011 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

To involve the two receptive skills (listening and speaking) is excellent for to get good results in learning.

Several sub skills like skimming, scanning, reading for detail among others help us improve our learning, so as coherence and cohesion help us to write good discourses or speeches also.

I believe to do literacy circles are very important and are strong classroom strategy because of the way that learners do collaborative work they take responsibility for their own learning. Therefore, if we want to increase our knowledge we must carry out this kind of activities and as a result we gain support.

REFLECTION ABOUT GRAMMAR

REFLECTION ABOUT GRAMMAR

I want to share you that when I was begining to learn English in Middle School  I liked the grammar because I could follow a model writing that gave me a learning support.

But It is different with children!  In my personal point of view, I think that they can learn of a natural way. They acquire the first language in a natural contex where they learn and develop different skills like listening and speaking, but they don´t know how and when they acquired the language. They don´t know to read and write. However, they can speak well.

By other hand, when adults  are learning a second language (English), They need basic grammatical rules if they want to write correctly, although they are learning in a natural context, where can have a strong interaction with other people who speak English too.
